Join Us for the 2026 Summer Opening at Frost Art Museum—RSVP Now!

When will the exhibition take place?

Saturday May 2, 2026 will be the Frost Art Museum’s Summer Opening. The museum is located at Florida International University.

Why is this event significant?

I always look forward to these events because there is a diverse selection of art by students earning their degrees along with the work of more established artists.

How do you get tickets?

This time, the event, is free and open to those who RSVP via their website. The process is really painless; you just sign up with your email.

To go, keep in mind that the event will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.. However, parking is limited, so you might want to come in early. They have it set up so that you can arrange for parking before you go, so it’s super easy. Here’s a really fast way to get tickets.

What will you see?

There will be three featured exhibitions: Invitation to Openness, Modern Cuban Painters from Havana to New York Revisited and Social Presence: 2026 MFA Exhibition.

Invitation to Openness is “[c]onceived as a response to David C. Driskell and Friends.” The interesting thing for me, as a hopeful musician, is this exhibition’s exploration of the “ethics of co-creation.” It is supposed to be a space where music and visual arts vibe off each other in new and unexpected ways while using traditional forms as strong roots to grow from.

The next exhibition, (I can’t wait to see this one), is curated by Elizabeth T. Goizueta and Cristina Figueroa Vives. Goizueta has taught at Boston College with a concentration in Iberian Art and Literature. Figueroa Vives, from her web presence, runs an independent gallery in El Vedado, Cuba. I want to see it because it looks at the 1944 movement of artists from Cuba into the United States. This exhibit has the work of Mariano Gonzalez, Mario Carreño, Carlos Enriquez, Roberto Diago, René Portocarrero, Wilfredo Lam, Fidelio Ponce and Amelia Peláez. It’s amazing!

My personal connection to the event

Last time I went to the Frost, I was delighted by its bright and airy atmosphere. There are plenty of spaces within the gorgeous place where the light lets you examine the paintings, so they just pop out at you.

I graduated from this university, so I may be just a touch biased, but I really believe it is a great museum and should be a great experience for all. The blend of music, art and sunshine sounds like a large party of delights for all the senses.
